January 2019

Hello 3rd grade Families,

Happy New Year!!   We hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday and break.  The next two weeks will be spent on mid-year assessments along with as much normalcy as possible.

Social Studies:  We are continuing our unit on geographic problems.

Math: Unit 5 covers multiplying and dividing within 100, understanding fractions as numbers, relate area to multiplication and addition.  Please continue to practice basic addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts at home. 

Writing: We will finish up our unit on informational writing.  Your child will pick a non-fiction topic of choice that they know a lot about and write a 4-5 paragraph essay on that topic.  It will include subheadings, pictures, captions, etc. 

Our next unit is on reading informational texts and writing about them in prompt specific essays.  The topic of study for this unit will be MLK, Ruby Bridges, and Civil Rights.

Reading:  Our unit is a study of historical and scientific texts, using text features to locate information efficiently, and how illustrations such as maps and photographs support understanding.

Important Dates:

January 10th - Report cards go home

January 17th – No school – assessment day (appointment only)

January 20th – No School MLK Day
