As the year winds down, we find ourselves hardly believing that a semester has already passed!  The school had an extraordinary start with two principals to kick off the school year, but I think we’re all getting into our groove, and working hard to establish systems and structures in support of student learning and student safety.

As we kick off 2020 and our second semester, we will see a new year and a renewed focus on standards-based instruction.  Our lunch study team met with the district’s nutrition services team, and we have developed a robust plan around educating our students about making healthy choices in the cafeteria, and we may be adjusting our lunch procedures in support of more eating time.  With that, we’re hoping to bring back the WatchDog program in order to help support our students during lunch, and we’re also looking for mentors for our students who may be struggling with social emotional concerns. We’ll also start our Safety committee in January with  hopes of fortifying our drop off and pick up procedures, and we’ll also host our very first State of the School Address.

As you can see, it's been an incredibly busy first semester, and we have no intention of slowing down.  Another piece of business we’d like to invite you to is a meeting here with our Superintendent of Schools, Chris Gdowski, our Chief Academic Officer, Priscilla Straughn, and our Executive Director Tobey Bassoff on January 15th at 2:30 p.m.  They’d like to hear more from you about your thoughts as we begin our new principal search.  They will spend an hour or so with our staff, and then they would like the opportunity to hear more from you.  We hope you’ll join us for that very special event.

In closing, I’d like to personally thank you for allowing me to serve as principal here for the remainder of the year.  This is a very special school, and I have very much enjoyed getting to know the staff, students, and parent communities.  I’d like to wish each and every one of you a restful, joyous, and peaceful winter vacation. We’ll see you in 2020!!
