Hello Prairie Hills!  I have to giggle to myself when I write these on Monday mornings because my first instinct is to ask you about the weekend.  But given it’s so hard to find the difference between a Wednesday and a Sunday anymore, I think I’ll assume you all had a great weekend-just as good as all the other days.

As a staff, we continue to learn more and more about some of the challenges we find in remote learning.  We believe we’ve gotten devices into almost everyone’s hands. We have assigned some of our classified personnel to serve as mentors to students who need additional help and support, we’ve got our Special Education team, our ELL teacher, and our Reading Interventionist pushing out differentiated learning activities, and we’ve distributed GT extension opportunities to our GT students.  But there’s one thing we can’t do-we can’t help the heroes in our community who are working in hospitals 15 hours a day. We can’t support any of our community members who are deemed essential, and who are putting their health on the line every day to support the rest of us. All we can do is to thank you, thank you for your selfless efforts, thank you for the sacrifices you’re making by staying away from your family, and thank you for putting yourselves into harm’s way for the benefit of the rest of us.  As a school community, I hope you’ll join me in a resounding cheer recognizing the efforts of the heroes who live among us. For all you do, the PHE family is grateful. #PHEproud

Field Day for Everyone!

This year, PHE will be participating in a virtual Field Day!  Mr. Sousa will be posting more information as the time gets closer!.

Mental Health Support

Please let us know if  your student or if your family is struggling during this time. You can email directly, Adrienne Foubert (Social Emotional Learning Specialist) or Teresa Coen (School Social Worker), both of them are licensed professionals here at our school, and they are available to help support your student during this challenging time.  You can visit their page on our PHE website. The link is here or you can find it by going to our website, clicking Classrooms, and then clicking on to the Mental Health title.  There you will find contact information, where you can reach out for further assistance.

Other Resources

If you or your family determine at this time that you need further resources due to homelessness, lack of food, or other needs, you can contact your student’s teacher, Ms. Foubert, Ms. Coen, or you can contact me at, and we will make a referral to our district’s Student Family Outreach Program, and they will work to connect you to district or community resources to help support your family.

We have begun refunding money for field trips and school lunches.  A few of you had some questions, I will list the FAQ below:

  • Kids Heart Challenge:  The money has been collected by the organization and we are waiting to learn more about when checks will be cashed, etc.  Their offices are also currently closed, and we don’t have that information at this time.

  • Japanese Club:  We will be refunding this fee when we are able to get back into the building.  These funds are locked in our vault and we do not have access to them at this time.

  • PTO Fundraiser Money:  If you paid for the Glow Party and Spring Fling with a check all checks have been voided and shredded.  If you paid with cash for the Glow Party and Spring Fling, the money has been credited to your student’s account and when you receive the refund check for field trips and school lunches you will receive that credit also.
